WHY IT MATTERS

Not all "natural" labels mean the same thing.

The word "natural" is unregulated in cosmetics. Any brand can print it on a label with zero requirement to prove it. COSMOS Organic is different — it is an internationally recognised, independently audited standard that leaves nothing to interpretation.

Achieving it requires rigorous documentation, on-site inspection of manufacturing facilities, and full traceability of every ingredient from farm to formula. And it does not end at launch. To keep the certification, brands are audited every single year.

When you see the COSMOS Organic mark on a Rhaneva product, it is not marketing. It is a legally verifiable guarantee.

Organic Ingredients

At least 95% of the ingredients in each formula are of natural origin while at least 20% of the plant-based ingredients are grown through certified organic agriculture — without synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or GMOs.

Clean Chemistry

Only processing methods that preserve the natural integrity of ingredients are permitted. Petrochemicals, synthetic polymers, silicones, parabens and sulfates are strictly prohibited.

Full Traceability

Every raw material is traceable from its source. The certifying body has access to supplier documentation, manufacturing records, and lab analysis at every stage.

Sustainable Packaging

Packaging must meet strict recyclability and biodegradability criteria. COSMOS prohibits packaging made from PVC or polystyrene and its derivatives.

No Animal Testing

Animal testing is completely prohibited — for both raw materials and finished products. This is non-negotiable under the COSMOS standard.

Annual Audits

Certification is not a one-time formality. An independent certifying body conducts annual inspections to ensure ongoing compliance with COSMOS requirements.

What COSMOS Organic requires

COSMOS ORGANIC

The highest tier of organic cosmetic certification

COSMOS stands for COSMetic Organic and Natural Standard. It was established in 2017 by five of Europe's most respected organic certification organisations: ECOCERT (France), Soil Association (UK), ICEA (Italy), BDIH (Germany), and Cosmebio (France). Together they created a single, internationally recognised benchmark so that consumers could trust organic claims across borders.

COSMOS Organic is the higher of the two COSMOS tiers. Unlike COSMOS Natural — which only requires ingredients to be of natural origin — COSMOS Organic additionally requires a verified minimum percentage of certified organic content in every formula.

• At least 20% of total ingredients must come from certified organic farming (10% for rinse-off products)
• At least 95% of all physically processed plant-based ingredients must be organically sourced
• All agricultural ingredients must be COSMOS Certified or COSMOS Approved
• Manufacturing processes must follow Green Chemistry principles
• Full supply chain documentation and traceability required
• Independent on-site inspection of production facilities
• Annual recertification — no lifetime certification exists
• Packaging assessed for environmental compliance

VEGAN CERTIFIED

No animal-derived ingredients. At any stage.

Vegan certification is separate from organic certification and is verified independently. It confirms that no animal-derived ingredients — including beeswax, lanolin, collagen, gelatin, or carmine — appear in the formula or were used at any stage of production or processing.

While COSMOS Organic already prohibits many animal-derived ingredients and bans animal testing entirely, Vegan certification goes further by verifying the complete absence of any animal-origin substances across the entire supply chain.

Holding both COSMOS Organic and Vegan certification simultaneously is a rare and meaningful dual commitment. Every Rhaneva product carries both.
